2024 ABC Mileage Challenge

Hi ABCers

November was a gloomy month in more ways than one and I found very little opportunity to get out on my ABC which means that the total mileage covered was only 18 miles! If anybody would like to add to this paltry score please feel free to do so.

Only one picture this month. Why is it that when one stops on an empty quiet lane to take a picture it immediately attracts a tractor, an SUV and a passing friend who wanted to know if I had broken down. As if! Also I am very happy with the Esway sprung loaded telescopic stand that is now fitted to WA (I don't have an original ABC stand) as it is a wonderfully over complicated way of stopping a bike from falling over. I am sure Mr Bradshaw would have approved.
 

I think I can claim the pleasure of kicking off the 2025 Mileage Challenge, with a modest New Year's Day trundle of 21 miles, to the Carpenters Arms, Miserden, and back.
Normally on this day, The Arms would have been heaving, but there were only two other bikes there, both mid-fifties plodders. Yeah, the weather really separated the men from the pansies. 
And the Sopwiths from all  Lesser Iron...

Well done Paul. Congratuations on the first miles to be claimed in 2025!

Bad weather and and a family commitment means that I am still on zero miles so far. But there's still time to catch up I think.

Happy New Year to you all.

Now that 2024 has come to a close I have totalled up the number of miles travelled by ABCs and the grand total came to a whopping 1966 miles (including 50 miles ridden in December). This total breaks down as per the short list below:  

EK - 701.4 miles
WA - 384.7 miles
NC - 287.3 miles
BF - 215.0 miles
AU - 142.0 miles
BE - 132.8 miles
The Blue & Red Racer - 102.89 miles

Congratulations to all those who got out on their ABCs in '24.

The need to record the miles travelled and find new photos each month really has given me a reason to use my ABCs for what they were intended for. Throughout the year I have had the pleasure of speaking to so many people about the marque at various bike meets, chance meetings, along with contact with other ABC owners. I really have had a lot of fun.

The question now is do I continue with these monthly posts? I am painfully aware that there are a lot of pictures of my machines in these posts and that I tend to support the same regular meets and venues. But then again these posts have attracted over 3000 views so somebody must be looking at them. During January it would be great to have some feedback on these posts.

Lastly, if you do have a running ABC please do use it, as they are wonderful machines being both quick and nimble on the road. You won't regret it.

A couple of pictures to round things off. The first was taken just before Christmas and is courtesy of John Turner Photography and shows yours truly arriving at a vehicle meet at Exbury in the company of a 1928 New Hudson 350 SV (an example of a lesser iron, Paul). This picture has also been on the ABC Motorcycles Facebook page which is well worth a look from time to time.
 

The second is of the GPS speedo that I was given for Christmas. A useful bit of kit which hopefully will help keep me under the 40 mph limit in the New Forest!
