Tires for ABC Gnome Rhone

Hello everyone,

I try to restore an ABC Gnome Rhome 500cc and I'm looking for Beaded Edge Tyres.

Maybe some one could indicate me the adresse of a dealer able to sell this kind of tires for an ABC.

If G&R uses the same wheel rims as Sopwith, your required tyre size is 26" x 2 1/2".
About the best tyre for this rim, these days, is the ENSIGN, with a tread-pattern copied from Dunlop. It is quite satisfactory for solo machines, but has a bad reputation when used with a sidecar.
If you tab 'beaded edge tyres', you should get Vintage Tyres, with addresses in Beaulieu and Bicester.
Price is £124 ex. VAT, or £148 with VAT. (Ordering from France, you would be exempted British VAT, but might have to pay a French import duty).
That was the good (?) news.
The bad news is that this tyre is not in stock.
I will try to contact Vintage Tyres later today, to see if there is news of fresh stock, and will let you know of anything positive.

Huh! No sooner said than done.
Vintage Tyres promises receipt of a consignment of Ensigns in about two week's time.
More good news...the prices I quoted include innertubes!
Phone nos. are 01869-243528 for the Bicester (Oxford) depot, and 01590-612261 for Beaulieu (Hampshire).
Size of consignment unspecified, but "there will be enough for everyone"!

Just a general Point for the future. In my experience Beaded edge tyres from Vintage always include inner-tubes
