ABC Sopwith Steering Geometry was created by Paul
I think it is generally agreed that the slow-speed steering of a Sopwith is, to put it mildly, wobbly. Above about 20 mph, it steadies up somewhat.
I've measured up the essential geometry of the front end, and here are the figures:-
Rake 53*
Trail 6.4"
(Wheelbase: 56.5")
Consultation with 'Irving's Bible' seems to explain quite a lot.
Recommended rake: 60* - 65*
Recommended trail: about 3"
So, it looks as though some sharpening of our steering head angles could be called for!
(Surely, we aren't all suffering from droopingheaditis?)
