Good Evening,
I picked up this 500cc ABC from Kim Siddorn before he past away. Sadly it has seen better days and I'm a little hesitant to run it again.
Kim thought it was a engine used for aircraft starting, hence no governor.
I don't suppose there is any spares in the wild? I'd love to have it running as a WW1 flat twin has been a aim of mine for some years.
Thanks in advance,
Cheers, Steve

There is nothing wrong with having the engine running, it's a good and fast engine if in a frame, see my 250 firefly.
Make a copy of the 1914 500cc frame or there is no shame putting it in a Douglas or other if turning the right way.

Could this be a trench pump. It is said Bradshaw developed the bike from these engines. It's the frame.

They made a trench pump, but this one is an aircraft starter set. I did have a period photo online of an somewhere but I can't seem to find it to share. It's in Kim Siddorn's book on ABC engines.

Steve,
You may find you don't need any spares to get it going. Our experience at Brooklands on 3 Bradshaw engines is they are basically robust and will run decently, even with a good amount of wear. I would suspect the mag would require a rewind to get a decent spark. Apart from that, they are not complex, so quick to take apart, clean and put back together.
best wishes
Ian
