Main stand spring

Hello,
I’m trying to sort out the stand spring assembly on my 398cc ABC. From what I can see, there should be a transverse spring inside the stand, and while I can see ( I think) how it is anchored on its offside end, I’m not clear how it is fixed at its near side end. Or where I might get a suitable spring.
All the other parts are there. (Mine had a crude coil spring stretching externally when the bike was on the stand, leaving the stand flapping just clear of the ground when off the stand.
Any information or suggestions gratefully received.
